60 Flinders Street, Melbourne, 3000
The Herald Sun Building, originally known as the Herald and Weekly Times Building, is a distinguished heritage landmark in Melbourne's CBD, steeped in media history.
Designed by HW & FB Tomkins in the Neo-Classical Beaux Arts style, this five-story concrete building was constructed in stages between 1921 and 1928 by Clements Langford. It served as the headquarters for the Herald newspaper, with two iconic radio towers added in 1930.
In 2006, the building underwent a significant transformation by Hassall Architects, with construction by Bovis Lend Lease, converting it into a mixed-use complex. This redevelopment introduced 56 residential apartments, an office tower, and a retail component, seamlessly blending historical architecture with modern functionality.
Today, the Herald Sun Building stands as a vital piece of Melbourne’s architectural and cultural heritage, offering a unique combination of historical significance and contemporary urban living.
